Pretty clearly, Trump doesn't understand that. Then again, McConnell can't even get 50 votes to pass his healthcare bill, so it doesn't matter. It's simply not going to happen.

I think the way that the Trump tweeting works is that it gives his gradually evaporating support base something to mouth and put in the place of an argument so as to delay the day when they will face reality. I think that's also the function of the 24-7 FOX and right-wing hate talk radio presence in our politics.
ReplyDeleteThe replacement of truth was preceded by the replacement of reality with the equivalent of intellectual professional wrestling based on phony entertainment narratives based on comic book villains and violence. That is the world that created Donald Trump's public persona as a man of bold decision and the morals of one of the more degenerate pagan emperors of Rome and sold that as desireable. Really, he's like a stupid Mussolini (who was the creation of Italian journalism).
Wish I could join in but I'm still afraid of jinxing things. About the only thing that makes me hopeful is that this seems to have revived and strengthened the idea that Democrats really need to push through single payer when they get the chance. Anything that is too complex for people to understand on the consumer end is bound to be vulnerable to the Republican lie machine.
