Advent 2017: December 12

64:1 O that you would tear open the heavens and come down, so that the mountains would quake at your presence--

64:2 as when fire kindles brushwood and the fire causes water to boil-- to make your name known to your adversaries, so that the nations might tremble at your presence!

64:3 When you did awesome deeds that we did not expect, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence.

Isaiah 64:1-3 (actual lectionary reading (partial) for Second Sunday of Advent this year).

Or get Doug Jones elected to the Senate from Alabama.  That would work, too.

  1. Wow, I didn't have any idea how much tension had built up in me over that Senate race, I'd tried to write about it and couldn't.

A narrow escape but one, nonetheless. Now to work on widening the margin of safety between us and disaster.

It would be fun if as unexpected a place as Alabama might be considered the pivot back to decency in American politics, the stone rejected, etc.

  2. I actually thought of the passage from Isaiah, then went looking for a picture to go with it. That's how I found it was the lectionary reading for the second Sunday of Advent for this year.

    Coincidence? I think not....;-)
